Opening a non-resident account (personal account)

Tokyo Star Bank offers support to non-residents (foreign nationals) to ensure you can use our services with confidence and ease.

Who may apply to open an account?

We generally limit new account openings for non-resident (foreign national) customers to the conditions set out below.

Those referred by a partner institution
This is a non-resident account opening service available to those referred by one of our partner institutions.
Those who do not reside in Japan
This service is for those who do not reside in Japan.
(Refers to those who are classified as non-residents under Japanese Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act or Income Tax Act. The determination of residency status will be confirmed by TSB in accordance with designated procedures.)
Those able to submit valid verification documents
(official government-issued certificates)
Eligible applicants must be able to submit valid verification documents
(official government-issued certificates) for identity verification.
  • We may refuse some requests to open an account after giving comprehensive consideration.

Required Procedures

In principle, new account openings and all related transactions must be performed face-to-face at our Head Office (Minato-ku, Tokyo). Please note that these procedures cannot be performed at another branch.
When opening an account, you will also need to provide the verification documents designated by TSB, complete any required forms, and provide your signation/seal.

Other Comprehensive Services

Notes

  • You will not be issued with a passbook. Statements will be mailed to your registered address each month. (Statements will be in Japanese, and explanatory materials will be provided in Chinese or English when you open your account)
  • Bank cards will only be issued upon request.
  • You will not have access to telephone banking or internet banking.
