- *1If you designate your Star One Yen ordinary deposit account as the account for salary or pension deposits, you can enjoy a preferential interest rate.
For customers whose Star One JPY ordinary deposit account transaction details include the description "salary deposit” (“Kyuyo-furikomi” (給与振込) or “kyu-furi” (給振)) or “pension” (“Nenkin” (年金)), or for customers whose transaction description is “inter-bank transfer” (“furikomi” (振込)) but for whom we are able to confirm that the transaction is a salary deposit or receipt of a pension, we will generally apply a preferential interest rate from the fifth business day of the following month.

*Buying and selling accounts is punishable by imprisonment for up to one year and a fine of up to one million yen. Opening an account with the intention of selling it to someone else is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Process leading up to commencement of transactions

We will send an internet banking (Tokyo Star Direct) login ID to your registered e-mail address.
Services such as money transfers will not be available until we can confirm you have received your bank card.

Minimum of 5 business days after applying
Your bank card will be sent to you by
restricted delivery and
the welcome package will be sent by regular mail.- Please show an identification document to the delivery person when taking delivery of your bank card.
- Until we confirm that you have received your bank card, you will be able to make deposits but will not be able to withdraw money from ATMs, make internet banking transfers, or set up direct debits, or conduct deposit transactions. Please note that if we are unable to confirm receipt of your bank card, you will no longer be able to access internet banking or use the account to accept salary payments and other deposits.
- Please also be aware that we may close your account if the bank card is returned to us due to being sent to an unknown address or if the bank card is returned to us after a certain period of time has elapsed due to you not accepting delivery of the card.
- *The welcome package includes usage instructions.
- *You may not receive your bank card and welcome package at the same time.

An account activation notification will be sent to your registered e-mail address.
Now that we have confirmed that you have received your bank card, you will be able to withdraw money from ATMs, making internet banking transfers, or set up direct debits, or conduct deposit transactions.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
ATM fees are waived 8 times a month when Star One accountholders use a Tokyo Star Bank ATM outside of banking hours or an affiliated financial institution’s ATM (Japan Post Bank ATM or Seven Bank ATM, etc.).
Fees for transfers to other banks made using Tokyo Star Direct (internet banking) are waived up to 5 times a month for customers with a Star One account who meet the following conditions:

Yes, you can open an account at a branch or by mail.
(1) Star One accounts handle both yen and foreign currencies. Opening a Star One account will enable you to make yen deposits as well as foreign currency deposits.
(2) Bank statements are available online or by mail. Tokyo Star Bank does not issue passbooks. Instead you can check the details of your transactions online or by referring to your bank statement.
(3) Our convenient and easy-to-operate internet banking service is available 24 hours a day from your PC or smartphone.

- *You may only apply if you have valid identification documents issued in Japan (driver’s license, and health insurance eligibility certificate or Personal Number card (“My Number” card)), and reside at the address shown on your verification documents.
